Overview #
Proper priming of the HeadHunter Stingray Seawater Pump is essential to ensure reliable water flow and protect the pump from damage during startup. After maintenance, winterization, replacing components, or any loss of prime, the pump must be properly primed before being returned to service.
A centrifugal seawater pump cannot pump air. If air is trapped within the pump housing or suction line, the pump may fail to establish water flow, resulting in reduced performance, dry-running, overheating, or system alarms.

When Priming is Required #
Prime the seawater pump whenever:

- Reduced cooling system performance.
Before You Begin #
Prior to priming the pump:
- Verify the seawater seacock is fully open.
- Inspect and clean the seawater strainer.
- Ensure all hose connections are secure and free of air leaks.
- Confirm the pump has electrical power and the associated breaker is ON.
- Verify the suction line is unobstructed.
