Italwinch® Anchor Windlass

Your Ocean Alexander yacht is equipped with two (2) Italwinch® single-speed, bi-directional anchor windlasses, engineered to provide dependable anchor handling and line management in a wide range of operating conditions. Designed for reliability and ease of operation, the windlass system allows for safe and controlled deployment and retrieval of the vessel’s anchors from both the helm and foredeck.

Each windlass is equipped with independent helm controls and deck-mounted foot switches, allowing operators to maintain clear visibility and hands-free control while anchoring. The system also features a split gypsy and capstan configuration, enabling the capstan to be used independently for docking, mooring, and line-handling operations without engaging the anchor chain. This provides increased operational flexibility while reducing unnecessary wear on the anchor handling components.

Important: Always operate the windlass with the vessel’s engines running or with adequate battery capacity available. The windlass is designed to retrieve the anchor and chain, not to pull or maneuver the vessel toward the anchor. Never use the windlass to secure the vessel at anchor; once the anchor is set, transfer the load to the appropriate chain stopper or bridle to prevent excessive loads on the windlass. Before each use, inspect the anchor chain, rope, gypsy, and surrounding deck area, and ensure all personnel remain clear of the anchor, chain, and moving components during operation.
