Overview #
Ocean Alexander yachts are equipped with premium soft-closing drawer slides designed to provide smooth, quiet operation while protecting cabinetry from unnecessary wear. The integrated soft-close mechanism gently pulls the drawer closed during the final few inches of travel, eliminating slamming and reducing impact on the surrounding cabinetry.
How the System Works #
Soft-close drawer slides incorporate an internal hydraulic dampener combined with a spring-assisted mechanism. As the drawer nears the fully closed position, the dampener slows the drawer’s movement while the spring gently draws it completely closed.
This controlled motion:
- Prevents drawers from slamming shut.
- Reduces noise throughout the vessel.
- Minimizes wear on drawer hardware and cabinetry.
- Provides a smooth, premium operating feel.
Proper Operation #
For optimal performance:
- Open and close drawers using the drawer handle or pull.
- Close the drawer with a gentle, steady push—there is no need to force it.
- Once the drawer reaches the final few inches of travel, the soft-close mechanism will automatically engage and pull the drawer fully closed.
- Allow the mechanism to complete the closing cycle without pushing or holding the drawer.
Operating Tips #
- Do not slam drawers closed. Excessive force can shorten the service life of the slides.
- Avoid placing excessive weight inside drawers beyond their intended capacity.
- Keep the drawer tracks free of debris, sand, and other contaminants that may affect smooth operation.
- If resistance is encountered, inspect the drawer for obstructions before applying additional force.
Maintenance #
Soft-close drawer slides are designed to operate without routine lubrication.
Periodically:
- Wipe the slide rails with a clean, dry cloth.
- Remove any dust, salt residue, or debris from the slide channels.
- Inspect mounting screws to ensure they remain secure.
- Verify the drawer remains properly aligned and operates smoothly.
Do not apply grease, oil, silicone spray, or other lubricants unless specifically recommended by Ocean Alexander, as these products can attract dirt and impair the soft-close mechanism.
Troubleshooting #
| Symptom | Possible Cause | Recommended Action |
|---|---|---|
| Drawer does not soft close | Drawer not pushed far enough to engage the mechanism | Close the drawer until the soft-close feature engages. |
| Drawer does not fully close | Obstruction or overloaded drawer | Remove any obstruction and reduce the drawer load if necessary. |
| Drawer feels rough or difficult to operate | Debris in slide rails or drawer misalignment | Clean the slides and inspect for proper alignment. |
| Drawer slams shut | Soft-close mechanism may be damaged or worn | Contact an Ocean Alexander Service Center for inspection and replacement if required. |
Ocean Alexander Recommendation #
Operate all soft-closing drawers with a smooth, controlled motion and allow the soft-close mechanism to complete the final closing cycle on its own. Proper use will extend the life of the drawer slides, preserve the quality of the yacht’s cabinetry, and maintain the refined onboard experience expected aboard every Ocean Alexander yacht.
