Overview #
This article outlines the correct procedure for installing SNAD® domed studs used to secure canvas, covers, cushions, and other removable fabric components without drilling into the vessel. Proper installation is essential to achieve maximum adhesive strength and long-term reliability.
Before You Begin #
- Ensure the mounting surface is clean, dry, and structurally sound.
- The surface should be smooth and free from wax, polish, silicone, oil, grease, salt, or other contaminants.
- The recommended application temperature is 70°F to 100°F (21°C to 38°C). Avoid installation on cold, wet, or excessively hot surfaces.
Surface Preparation #
- Clean the mounting surface using a 50/50 mixture of isopropyl alcohol and water.
- Wipe the area with a clean, lint-free cloth and allow it to dry completely.
- Do not use solvents that may leave residue or damage the surface finish.
Installation Procedure #
- Verify the final location before removing the adhesive backing.
- Peel the protective liner from the rear of the SNAD® stud.
- Carefully position the stud in the desired location.
- Apply firm, even pressure over the entire adhesive pad, including the center and edges, to ensure full contact with the mounting surface.
- Do not reposition the stud once it has been applied, as this will reduce adhesive performance.
Adhesive Cure Time #
The adhesive bond continues to strengthen after installation. For best results:

Avoid attaching or placing significant loads on the SNAD® stud until the full 72-hour cure period has elapsed whenever possible.
Best Practices #
- Install only on clean, dry, high-energy surfaces.
- Apply firm pressure during installation to maximize adhesive contact.
- Allow the adhesive to fully cure before use.
- Inspect SNAD® studs periodically for signs of wear, contamination, or adhesive deterioration.
- Replace any stud that becomes loose or damaged.
