Introduction to the Manufacturer’s Procedure #
Overview #
Routine fresh water flushing is one of the most important preventative maintenance procedures for your Spot Zero Watermaker. Flushing the membrane with clean, chlorine-free fresh water removes salt, minerals, and biological contaminants that can accumulate during normal operation, helping to preserve membrane performance and extend the overall service life of the system.
A manual fresh water flush should be performed whenever the watermaker will remain out of service for an extended period, after normal operation as recommended by the manufacturer, or whenever an automatic flush cycle has not occurred.
Regular flushing reduces the risk of membrane fouling, scaling, and biological growth while maintaining optimum freshwater production and system efficiency.
Benefits of Routine Fresh Water Flushing #
Performing routine fresh water flushes helps to:
- Remove salt and mineral deposits from the membranes.
- Reduce biological growth and membrane fouling.
- Extend reverse osmosis membrane life.
- Maintain optimum freshwater production.
- Reduce maintenance and cleaning requirements.
- Improve long-term reliability and system performance.
Before You Begin #
Prior to performing a manual fresh water flush:
- Verify an adequate supply of clean, chlorine-free fresh water.
- Ensure the Spot Zero Watermaker is in a safe operating condition.
- Follow all manufacturer safety precautions.
- Confirm all required valves are in their proper operating positions.
Manufacturer Procedure #
The following pages contain the official Spot Zero manufacturer’s procedure for manually performing a fresh water flush on your watermaker. Follow each step in the order provided to ensure the membranes are flushed correctly and the system is protected during periods of non-use.
Routine flushing is a simple preventative maintenance task that significantly contributes to the longevity, efficiency, and reliability of your Spot Zero Watermaker.
