Overview #
The Climma HVAC Air Handler Air Filter is an essential component of the vessel’s climate control system. The filter is installed in front of the air intake and is designed to capture dust, lint, and airborne debris before they reach the evaporator coil and internal HVAC components.
Maintaining a clean air filter is critical for proper airflow, system efficiency, and long-term HVAC performance.
A restricted or dirty filter can result in:
- Reduced airflow.
- Decreased cooling or heating performance.
- Increased HVAC operating load.
- Reduced humidity control.
- Potential system performance alarms.
Air Filter Inspection Frequency #
The air filter should be inspected and cleaned periodically as part of normal vessel maintenance.
Filter cleaning frequency depends on:
- HVAC usage hours.
- Vessel operating environment.
- Interior conditions.
- Amount of carpet or rugs onboard.
- Presence of pets.
- Dust and airborne contaminants.
High-use systems or vessels with increased interior dust accumulation may require more frequent filter cleaning than the standard maintenance reminder interval.
Climma Filter Cleaning Reminder – C.FL Code #
Climma air handlers include a built-in operating hour timer designed to remind operators when filter maintenance is recommended.
After approximately 2,500 hours of operation, the controller will display:
C.FL
This message indicates:
- The filter cleaning reminder interval has been reached.
- The return air filter should be inspected and cleaned.
- The maintenance timer should be reset after completing service.
The C.FL message is a maintenance reminder and does not indicate an HVAC system failure.

Cleaning the Climma HVAC Air Filter #
To clean the air filter:
- Turn the HVAC system OFF.
- Access the Climma air handler.
- Remove the filter element from the air intake area.
- Inspect the filter for:
- Dust buildup.
- Lint accumulation.
- Debris.
- Damage or deterioration.
- Clean the filter using an appropriate method recommended for the filter type.
- Allow the filter to dry completely if washed.
- Reinstall the filter securely.
- Return the HVAC system to normal operation.
Filter Replacement #
Replace the filter if:
- The filter material is damaged.
- The filter no longer cleans effectively.
- Airflow remains restricted after cleaning.
- The filter has deteriorated due to age or environmental exposure.
Always use a properly sized replacement filter suitable for the installed Climma air handler.
Maintenance Recommendations #
For optimal HVAC performance:
- Inspect filters regularly.
- Clean filters more frequently during heavy HVAC use.
- Check filters before extended cruising periods.
- Keep return air grilles unobstructed.
